Cloning and repatriation do not always guarantee an exact replica
Namely, that in order to meet the ever-increasing demand for streaming content, creators on this side of the pond are borrowing entire shows from overseas. This year, 2024, France has been the source of two major North American releases, namely High Potential (a clone of the hit French series known as “HPI”) and now, with THE AGENCY 2024, a clone of Le Bureau Des Legends (one of the most popular French TV shows of all time, airing from 2015 to 2020). For example, many critics consider the new Western version of HPI, High Potential , to be a real improvement over the original.
But so far, so good
Based on the first episode of Agency , this critic thinks the show should at least hold its own against its iconic foreign counterpart. The writing is sharp, and Fassbender — yet another A-list movie star crossing over to the small screen — rarely disappoints. We take it for granted that major plot arcs will be tweaked to accommodate the ever-changing political landscape.
